Family Man Louis loves his family deeply. He is a devoted husband and father. His life is stable and happy. First Cracks After Church's resurrection, Louis begins to question reality. He hides the cat's strange behavior from Rachel. His rational worldview starts to erode.
Grief and DenialGrief and Denial
The Breaking Point Shock Louis is numb after Gage's death. He goes through the motions of the funeral. He fights with Irwin Goldman. He sends Rachel and Ellie away. The Idea Takes Hold Louis cannot accept Gage's death. He remembers Church's resurrection. He begins to plan to exhume Gage and take him to the Micmac burying ground. Rationalization Louis convinces himself that it is possible and that he can handle the consequences. He ignores Jud's warnings and his own doubts. Grief overrides reason.
The Grave RobberyThe Grave Robbery
Desecration Preparation Louis buys a pick, shovel, and flashlight. He checks into a motel. He waits until late night to enter Pleasantview Cemetery. Exhumation Louis climbs the fence, digs up Gage's grave, and opens the coffin. He is horrified by the smell and the sight of his son's damaged body. He wraps Gage in a tarpaulin and carries him to his car. The Journey Louis drives to Ludlow and carries Gage's body through the woods to the Micmac burying ground. He encounters the Wendigo in Little God Swamp but presses on. He buries Gage and builds a cairn.
The Resurrection and AftermathThe Resurrection and Aftermath
Awakening to Horror Gage Returns Louis wakes to find Gage has returned, but he is not the same. Gage has killed Jud and Rachel. Louis finds their bodies. Confrontation Louis confronts the resurrected Gage, who attacks him with a scalpel. Louis injects Gage with morphine, killing him again. He then wraps Rachel's body and takes her to the burying ground. Final Act Louis sets fire to Jud's house to cover the evidence. He carries Rachel's body into the woods, intending to resurrect her. Steve Masterton sees him but cannot stop him. The End Louis returns home. He plays solitaire. Rachel's zombie returns and touches his shoulder. Louis's fate is sealed in a cycle of horror.
